Pediatric dentistry is a specialized approach to providing dental services that are specifically focused on kids and their unique needs. While children have many of the same dental requirements and needs as an adult, they need a special, caring touch and someone who is well versed in the unique issues that come with childhood dentistry.
It is never too early to teach your child the habits of good oral hygiene and our pediatric dental program focuses on education as well as taking care of teeth. Children should brush their teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Brushing should be done with a soft-bristled brush for a minimum of two minutes at a time, from the front teeth all the way to the back, inside and outside, top and bottom.
Routine dental screenings should begin as early as possible. The American Academy of Pediatric dentistry recommends the child’s first visit be by the age of one. Early screenings will consist of counting your child’s teeth, looking for developmental issues, and most importantly, building trust and comfort between the child and dentist to make future trips easier and more relaxing.
The doctors at Avery Ranch Dental have a unique passion and love for working with children. Their bedside manner and sensitive approach to the needs of children set them apart from many other dentists. Some of our doctors even engage in special community service initiatives to educate kids on proper dental hygiene and care.
We understand that children are often scared to go to the dentist for the first time. If your child is new to dentistry, we encourage them to schedule a “happy visit.” During the “happy visit”, children will see the office, sit in the chair, hold some of the dentistry tools, and receive a gift bag, in order to feel comfortable without any scary procedures. This way, when children come in for a cleaning during the next visit, they feel comfortable with the staff and will reduce any fear of the dentist at a young age.
Feel free to email us regarding any scheduling or general questions!
